Three arrested for armed robbery
Three suspects have been arrested for armed robbery in Welgelegen, Polokwane, today.
It is believed a 54-year-old woman was doing her housekeeping tasks when two armed men ran into the house and pointed a firearm at her, Review reported.
Police spokesperson Captain Ntobeng Phala said the suspects tied the woman’s arms with a duct tape, closed her mouth and started demanding cash
and the keys to the safe.
“While pointing her with a firearm, the two suspects, who were joined by the third robber, told the housekeeper not to play games with them because they knew the house belonged to a wealthy business personality,” added Phala.
The screams of the woman alerted neighbours, who then called the Edwel neighbourhood watch and the police.
The suspects fled, but they were apprehended by two men.
A third man, who was driving a getaway car, fled the scene.
During the arrest, one firearm, cellphones and other small valuables were recovered, police said.
The two men, both from Soweto, Gauteng, will appear at the Polokwane Magistrates’ Court soon to face charges of armed robbery.
Police have launched a manhunt for the third suspect.
In a separate incident, two suspects were arrested in connection with an armed robbery in Delportshoop, Northern Cape, early this month.
It was alleged the suspects, aged 20 and 26, entered a tuck shop owned by a foreign national and pointed a firearm at the owner, police said.
They made off with an undisclosed amount of money, airtime vouchers and two cellphones.
Police found the suspects hiding in a bush.
All stolen items were recovered.
