Man killed while assisting hijacked brother
A man who went to assist his brother, whose car broke down on the N3 in Germiston on Tuesday night, was killed when he was hit by a car.
The dead man’s brother had been hijacked and wounded in the leg, Kempton Express reported.
Emer-G-Med spokesperson Danielle Dooley said the incident happened at about 9.30pm on the N3 south between the M2 split and the Geldenhuis interchange, near the PPC cement factory.
“It is alleged that a man’s car had broken down on the side of the highway. He called his brother to assist him. He was then hijacked and shot in the leg,” said Dooley.
“His brother arrived and ran across the highway and was struck by a vehicle. He died instantly.”
Medics treated the gunshot patient at the scene. He refused ambulance transportation to hospital, as he did not want to leave his brother’s body, said Dooley.
In December, victims of an accident in the Pretoria CBD were allegedly robbed by onlookersshortly after the crash, paramedics said.
Best Care Ambulance spokesperson Xander Loubser said the incident happened after a bakkie and a car collided on Struben Street and Eskia Mphahlele Drive in Marabastad, Pretoria.
Loubser said paramedics arrived at the scene and found the driver of the bakkie trapped inside the vehicle with two of his passengers sitting next to it.
“The driver of [the other] car was lying outside his vehicle with a wound to his head. When we treated him, we realised he had no shoes [on],” Loubser said.
According to Loubser, bystanders pretending to help the man had robbed him of his cellphone, shoes and wallet, which contained his driver’s licence.
