Suspects still at large following armed robbery

Cases of business robbery and attempted murder have been opened after an unconfirmed number of robbers stormed into a supermarket in Scottburgh, KwaZulu-Natal.

The suspects allegedly gained entry through the roof of a supermarket in Scottburgh at a shopping complex at 2am yesterday and took cleaning staff and the security guard to a toilet and locked them in, Southcoast Herald reported.

Suspects then opened a safe by using explosives and stole an undisclosed amount of CASH, police said.

Another security guard from a security company responded when he heard the blast. As he approached, he was shot at by the robbers, but was not injured.

The robbers fled in unknown vehicles, and no arrests have been made.

Last month, one suspect was killed and another arrested after a business robbery in the Umlazi area in KwaZulu-Natal.

It is alleged two Ethiopian nationals were sleeping in their tuck shop in F Section at about 1.45am when the suspects broke into the shop and robbed them, police said.

During the process, Umlazi police were reportedly contacted, and they reacted to the business robbery in progress.

Two suspects inside the shop allegedly opened fire at the police, and police retaliated, fatally wounding one suspect.

Police added the second suspect was captured and was found in possession of an unlicensed 9mm pistol with six live rounds of ammunition.
