Pretoria man finds chewed pen in KFC sandwich

A man allegedly found a chewed-up pen in his chicken and mayonnaise sandwich from a KFC outlet in Pretoria.

Martin Koekemoer and his wife Jeanine van Loggerenberg found the chewed-up pen in their breakfast sandwich on Thursday morning, Rekord Moot reported.

“My husband and I stopped at the Jacaranda Centre KFC yesterday morning on our way to work to buy breakfast. When he got to work, he started eating his sandwich, only to find a chewed-up pen in the second half of it. We were totally disgusted by this. We don’t know how the pen ended up in there,” said Van Loggerenberg.

Van Loggerenberg and her husband reported the situation to KFC immediately, and they received an apology. They were also reportedly offered a refund, but they dismissed the proposal.

KFC South Africa corporate communications manager Gail Sham said: “At KFC, the safety of our customers is of the utmost importance to us. Each and every KFC restaurant follows global processes and procedures to maintain the highest quality standards and make sure our food is 100% safe to eat.”

“We are aware of the isolated incident at KFC Jacaranda Centre, Pretoria, and take this issue seriously. We are in the process of conducting a thorough investigation into this case,” added Sham.

In January, a customer found a critter packaged in food in a popular Indian restaurant in Midrand, Gauteng.

Sivan Govender allegedly ordered a takeaway meal from Thava Indian Restaurant at the Carlswald Centre and was dissatisfied when he found a small roach in his meal.

Govender immediately contacted the manager, who was reportedly apologetic about the matter.
