Elderly man found dead, burnt
An inquest docket is being investigated by police after a 63-year-old man was found dead with burn wounds inside his house in Tsakane, on the East Rand.
Police spokesperson Captain Petros Mabuza said the man, who lived alone, was found on Tuesday afternoon. He said the neighbours, who were worried after not seeing the man in his yard, rushed to his home to check if he was there, African Reporter reported.
The concerned neighbours reportedly called the police after realising the old man was not responding, and his bedroom door was locked from inside.
“The police broke the door to gain access, and the man was found dead with burn wounds,” said Mabuza.
According to Mabuza, police suspect the man died after his room caught fire. He added the cause of death was still being investigated.
On Wednesday, a man died in a house fire in Benoni, on the East Rand.
According to ER24 spokesperson Chitra Bodasing, paramedics and firefighters arrived at the house and found a room engulfed in flames.
“Firefighters extinguished the blaze. Upon inspection, the body of a man believed to be in his 30s was found. He was declared dead by provincial paramedics on scene,” she added.
The cause of the fire was not known.
