Shahiel’s mother not ready to forgive
Ishara Dewnarian, mother of murdered nine-year-old Shahiel Sewpujun, says she will never forgive the two women accused of murdering her son.
“I cannot understand how anyone could forgive someone who tortured and killed their child in that way. They are my own blood, but I cannot bring myself to forgive them. Not for what they did to my baby,” Dewnarian told Phoenix Sun.
She added she still had no clear understanding of what had happened on the day Sewpujan was killed, and also claimed her cousin Kavitha Naicker was the one who killed him.
“All I know is that she killed him with a chisel – the one we use to use in the kitchen to grind garlic. But apart from that, I don’t know how she did it or even why,” she said.
Sewpujun’s naked and bruised body had been found in a manhole in Phoenix, KwaZulu-Natal last month. A postmortem report showed that the boy had been bludgeoned in the head with a blunt object.
His aunt and grandmother, Kavitha Naicker and Rajwanthie Haripersadh, respectively, were arrested and charged with his murder. The two women have since made numerous appearances in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court.
The two accused are expected to appear again later this month.
