Missing girl found hiding in wanted man’s house

A 26-year-old man has been arrested after one of the two women who went missing last week was found hiding in the home belonging to his father in Egerton area, Ladysmith, in KwaZulu-Natal.

The two missing 18 year olds were reported missing last Tuesday and could not be reached, as their cellphones were allegedly turned off. The first teen was found near the RTI base on Friday night. She was returned to her parents unharmed, Ladysmith Gazette reported.

On Saturday afternoon, Dog Unit (K9), Tactical Response Team (TRT) and Crime Intelligence Gathering (CIG) officers raided a house in the Egerton area, where they found the other missing teen in the home of a wanted suspect.

When police raided the house, both the teen and the suspect were in the home belonging to the suspect’s father. The teen was in a cupboard and the man was hiding in the ceiling. The man’s parents were at home and were apparently aware the two were in the house.

When police entered, the couple came out of hiding. The man, who was wanted by police in connection with a fraud case in Rosebank, was arrested. He is scheduled to appear in court on Monday. The teen was safely returned to her family.

In a separate incident, a missing Centurion teenager was found in Vanderbijlpark in the company of a man who has since been arrested in April.

Jane de Bruyn, 16, disappeared on April 9 at about 6.30 in Lyttelton Manor, in Centurion and residents, along with her family, began a frantic search for her.

Lyttelton police spokesperson Warrant Officer Hero Gumbu said De Bruyn was found in the company of a 20-year-old man.

“The girl’s father suspected that she was with him and had opened a case of theft against him. He thus became a wanted suspect, and a lookout was issued for him,” said Gumbu.

“Luckily, someone in Vanderbijlpark was sharp enough to recognise him and phoned the police. When the police arrived they found them together. He has since been arrested.”
