KZN man arrested for drug possession
A 20-year-old man is expected to appear in the Chatsworth Magistrates’ Court in Durban on Thursday after he was found in possession of 25 pieces of rock.
Provincial police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said members of the Flying Squad Task Team received information about a suspect dealing in drugs in the Chatsworth area yesterday. They proceeded to the said place and found the suspect in possession of 25 pieces of rock to the value of R2 500. He was subsequently arrested, Rising Sun Chatsworth reported.
KZN provincial commissioner Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni applauded the community for providing officers with the “genuine information” that led to the arrest of the suspect.
“We need to work together in order to get rid of drugs in our communities,” she added.
In a separate incident, two men were arrested in Kimberley for possession of drugs with a street value of R6 000, in May.
Police stopped an Audi along Bakley Road and Fourth Street. “Inside the vehicle bonnet they recovered a bag containing 146 mandrax tablets and 31g of tik with an estimated street value of R6 770,” said spokesperson Major Dimakatso Mooi.
There were three people in the car. The driver managed to flee on foot, she said. Two men aged 20 and 27 were arrested, and the vehicle and the drugs confiscated, added Mooi.
