KZN police discover large dagga den
A suspected dagga dealer has been detained at Mtubatuba Police Station in KwaZulu-Natal after police stumbled upon a large dagga production factory at a house in St Lucia.
Following a tip-off in connection with a recent house robbery in St Lucia, the officers found dagga plants of all sizes, dried plants hanging like washing and leaves and seeds packaged in plastic bags yesterday, Zululand Observer reported.
The estimated street value is currently unknown, but at least three bakkie loads were confiscated.
Officers are working on the possibility that the suspect was involved in a house robbery on Saturday night, where a bystander was a victim of a hit-and-run.
The vehicle allegedly used in the hit-and-run was found at the house last night. A second person, also suspected to be involved in the house robbery, is also being detained.
In May, a man, 31, and woman, 26, were arrested after police responded to a domestic violence complaint and instead discovered a dagga plantation in their house in Florida, on Gauteng’s West Rand.
Florida police spokesperson Lydia Dikolomela said police responded to the domestic violence complaint. When they questioned the couple about the complaint, the pregnant woman allegedly told them her boyfriend was growing dagga inside the house.
“Police searched two rooms and discovered fully-fledged dagga laboratories. A third room was being turned into another green room in the massive, dilapidated upmarket house on Kenya Road,” added Dikolomela.
