Passengers stranded after flight cancellations
Passengers were left stranded this morning after their British Airways (BA) flight to Cape Town was grounded at King Shaka International Airport.
British Airways spokesperson Stephen Forbes said the flight was cancelled after they picked up a technical problem with the fuel system, North Coast Courier reported.
The Boeing 737-400 was supposed to have taken off at 6.25am, but passengers were asked to disembark after everyone had already boarded the plane.
Most of the passengers asked for a refund after BA staff said the earliest flight they could book was for Saturday morning.
In a separate incident, SA Airways cancelled its flights between Johannesburg and Port Louis in Mauritius due to a tropical cyclone, in January.
“The adverse weather conditions associated with tropical cyclone Bansi in Mauritius are below SAA operational limits and for that reason we have taken a decision to cancel all flights between Johannesburg and Port Louis,” said SAA`s spokesperson Tlali Tlali.
“The safety of our passengers and crew was a key consideration in taking this decision,” he added.
Flights SA190 from Johannesburg to Port Louis and SA191 from Port Louis to Johannesburg were cancelled.
