Dance steps taught to Mams kids
Centurion-based dance group, Beat Boppers visited Mamelodi on Saturday to educate kids about dancing.
Centurion-based dance group Beat Boppers visited Mamelodi on Saturday to show kids some dancing steps.
Group founder and singer Rea Le Roux said the visit to Mamelodi’s Beer Hall formed part of the group’s involvement in raising drug awareness in communities through the theme hip hop against drugs.
“One of my vocal students from Mamelodi, Gift Mashabane, briefed us about the situation in Mamelodi and about the effect of drugs on young people. We thought that we had to do something,” Le Roux said.
Beat Boppers brought a number of dancers to come and teach the kids how to dance.
“It’s all about keeping the kids off the streets and giving them something to keep them busy with, especially now during the holidays,” she said.
Dance coach Gert Jansen van Vuuren said he was impressed with the understanding and enthusiasm shown by the kids.
Mashabane said he had learnt a lot from Le Roux and was hoping to transfer the knowledge and skills to the kids.
“Drug abuse is a serious problem that affects all of us. It is important that we teach the kids to know the difference between wrong and right at an early age.”
The dance coaches from Beat Boppers spent the day teaching the youth hip hop/breakdancing (just like in the Step-up films :)
