Why fig sangria is the perfect white wine cocktail

Fig sangria cocktail combines the rich, sweet flavour of figs with crisp white wine, tart citrus, and a hint of herbal notes.

Traditional red sangria usually features oranges, lemons, and berries. But there’s another fruit worthy of the spotlight: the fig. Its gentle sweetness and silky texture turn an ordinary pitcher of sangria into something special for warm summer nights and casual get-togethers on the patio. When you pair figs with a dry white wine – like Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio, or Albariño – the acidity brightens the fruit, while the light body makes each sip refreshingly crisp. A splash of apple brandy brings the flavours together. If you prefer a sweeter take, switch to Chenin Blanc or Moscato.

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle of dry white wine
  • 1 cup fresh figs, halved
  • 1 orange, sliced
  • 1 lemon, sliced
  • 1 lime, sliced
  • 1/4 cup apple brandy (optional)
  • 1/4 cup simple syrup
  • Sparkling water
  • Fresh mint leaves

Method

  1. In a large pitcher, combine the halved figs, orange slices, lemon slices, and lime slices. Gently muddle the fruit with a wooden spoon.
  2. Pour the entire bottle of white wine into the pitcher. If you’re using brandy, add it at this stage.
  3. Add the simple syrup to the mixture. Stir well to combine all the ingredients.
  4. Cover the pitcher and place it in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours.
  5. When ready to serve, fill glasses with ice and pour the sangria over the ice, leaving some space for sparkling water. Top with a splash of sparkling water and a few fresh mint leaves.
