Watch: Catch a preview of Toyota’s latest high-performance offering

A clip hints at Toyota’s next performance machine, building anticipation before the automaker's latest GR-badged creation is revealed on Friday.

2025 has been a big year for Toyota, with the Japanese automaker having revealed several key new models for 2026. Among the latter are the new RAV4, which is scheduled to launch in South Africa in the first half of 2026, the highly-anticipated new Land Cruiser FJ, which has been confirmed for an SA launch in the second quarter of 2026, and the SA-bound new Hilux. However, it’s not an SUV- and bakkie-only affair. Indeed, before the end of the 2025, Toyota will unveil the next chapter in its high-performance legacy — the company teasing the GR GT with a commercial before its official reveal.

The commercial, which was shared by car enthusiast Mike Forsyth on his YouTube channel, first showcases the iconic Toyota 2000GT, before the legendary Lexus LFA appears on screen. The Toyota and Lexus duo is then joined by the Aichi brand’s soon-to-be-revealed new high-performance offering — the GR GT. This is followed by an arial shot of all three cars driving, the GR GT leading the pack, before the tagline, ‘The Soul Lives On’, appears on screen and, then, the GR GT’s reveal date.

Toyota GR GT reveal date

The GR GT will make its official global debut on Friday, before making its public premiere at the 2026 Tokyo Auto Salon, which takes place from January 9 to 11.

The firm has remained tight-lipped about what we can expect from the GR GT. However, reports have suggested that Toyota’s new performance-focused could be powered by a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, likely incorporating electric assistance.
