New sales milestone for Omoda and Jaecoo SA
Omoda and Jaecoo South Africa has for the first time surpassed the 20 000 new-vehicle sales marker since its local launch in 2023.
January marked a significant milestone for Omoda and Jaecoo South Africa, with this Chery sub-brand reaching a total of 20 857 new vehicles sold since its local introduction in 2023. The local arm of the Chinese automaker recorded its strongest sales month yet in January, with 1 418 new vehicles sold positioning it among the top five best-selling Chinese car brands in SA.
In 2023, Omoda and Jaecoo recorded 1 750 total new-vehicle sales, followed by 5 094 units in 2024, while 12 597 units left showroom floors in 2025. Last month’s record-breaking figure sets a new benchmark for the Chinese automaker in 2026.
Omoda and Jaecoo highlighted that of its total cumulative sales since launch, the Omoda C5 – the first vehicle introduced by the brand in South Africa – has proven to be its most popular model, recording a total 14 395 units sold. In January, the C5 once again placed among the five best-selling Chinese passenger cars in SA. The Jaecoo J7, introduced in April 2024, and J5, which launched in August 2025, recorded 3 817 and 1 322 units sold, respectively. The Omoda C9 and C7 followed with 995 units and 328 units sold since their respective launches in October 2024 and November 2025.
Of the total 20 857 vehicles sold, 590 were plug-in hybrids. The Jaecoo J7 Super Hybrid System (SHS) accounted for 317 units sold, while the Omoda C9 SHS recorded 218 units sold. A duo of other hybrid models are slated for local introduction this year, including the Omoda C5 SHS and Jaecoo J5 hybrid – the former and latter among every Chinese car confirmed for SA this year.
