Toyota SA confirms new RAV4 price

The new Toyota RAV4 will offer petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid options and a choice of different models.

2026 is set to be a big year for Toyota South Africa, with the Japanese automaker’s local arm set to introduce several highly anticipated new products to our market. The latter includes the box-fresh Land Cruiser FJ, ninth-generation Hilux, and the SUV featured here – the new RAV4.

The sixth-generation RAV4 measures 4 600mm in length and 1 855mm in width – dimensions similar to the outgoing fifth iteration. The wheelbase remains unchanged, at 2 690mm.

As Car Magazine reported in February 2026, locally, the new RAV4 will be available with the choice of three powertrain options: 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrol, 2.5-litre hybrid (HEV), and 2.5-litre plug-in hybrid (PHEV).

Price in SA

The five-strong new RAV4 lineup is priced from R770 500 for the 2.5 HEV GX CVT to R1 043 900 for the 2.5 PHEV GR-S CVT. The sole model employing the petrol-only, 2.0-litre powertrain is priced from R799 900.

  • Toyota RAV4 2.5 HEV GX — R770 500
  • Toyota RAV4 2.0 VX — R799 900
  • Toyota RAV4 2.5 HEV VX — R927 800
  • Toyota RAV4 2.5 HEV GR-S — R941 800
  • Toyota RAV4 2.5 PHEV — R1 043 900

While the power and torque outputs of the non-electrified, 2.0-litre internal combustion engine (ICE), which is exclusively available with VX grade, has yet to be revealed, a fair bet would be that it will mirror the outgoing 2.0-litre VX derivative’s – 127kW and 203Nm.

Moving on to the new-energy powertrains, while the 2.5-litre HEV unit’s peak power output has yet to be announced, in Australia, a market that largely mirrors ours, the traditional hybrid setup produces a combined 143kW. The HEV setup will be available with GX, VX, and GR-Sport (GR-S) spec – the latter including several upgrades such as updated suspension and steering, and 20mm-wider track.

The 2.5-litre PHEV powertrain produces combined power outputs of 200 and 227kW in the front- and all-wheel-drive models, respectively. The GR-S version exclusively employs the latter drivetrain.
