The next-generation Tucson features Hyundai’s new ‘Art of Steel’ design language. A massive departure from the current iteration’s, the new Tucson’s purposeful exterior styling is defined by sharp, angular lines.

The fifth iteration’s boxier bodywork measures 4 700mm in length, 1 905mm in width, and 1 685mm in height; making it 60mm longer, 40mm wider, and 20mm taller than the outgoing model, which was one of the highest-scoring vehicles tested by CAR magazine in 2025.

The wheelbase has been stretched, too – by 40mm to 2 785mm. In addition, the box-fresh Tucson is also longer and wider than the new Toyota RAV4, current-generation VW Tiguan and Kia Sportage, and new Mazda CX-5.

According to the South Korean carmaker, the increase in exterior dimensions has translated to a roomier cabin. Hyundai claims a 29mm increase in rear headroom. The company has yet to reveal boot and utility capacities.

Stepping inside, the redesigned interior features a more horizontal facia. The cabin plays host to a new multifunction steering wheel, fresh digital instrumentation sited atop the dashboard, and a larger touchscreen infotainment system. Largely devoid of analogue switchgear, most vehicle functions will seemingly be operated via the latter item.

Hyundai has yet to reveal powertrain details. However, we’d speculate the new Tucson will gain the firm’s 1.6-litre hybrid powertrain. As a reminder, the latter unit is employed by the current Santa Fe, which we evaluated for a road test in 2025.

Hyundai South Africa has yet to announce a local introduction date for the new Tucson.
