Subaru South Africa has confirmed its new Outback line-up for the local market, with the two-model range set to arrive towards the end of the year.

The range will comprise Premium and Wilderness derivatives, powered by 2.5l and 2.4l turbocharged four-cylinder boxer engines respectively. The flagship Wilderness produces 194kW and 382N.m, giving it a substantial power advantage over the 137kW/254N.m Premium.

Both derivatives come standard with Subaru’s Lineartronic continuously variable transmission (CVT) and Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, while the Wilderness adds an X-Mode all-wheel-drive management system and more rugged styling.

Rugged styling and interior technology

Compared with the Premium, the Wilderness also features more rugged exterior appointments, including protective body cladding and all-terrain tyres.

Inside, the cabin features 12.3-inch digital instrumentation and a 12.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system, with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

The Outback also features Subaru’s EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, which uses a combination of LiDAR and stereoscopic camera feeds to oversee safety systems such as adaptive cruise control and pre-collision braking.

Expanded dimensions and warranty coverage

The new Outback measures 4 880mm in length, 1 880mm in width and 1 715mm in height, making it 20mm longer, 25mm wider and 35mm taller than the outgoing model.

The wheelbase remains unchanged at 2 745mm.

Depending on the derivative, the new Outback has ground clearance of either 220mm or 240mm.

While Subaru South Africa has yet to reveal local pricing, the company has confirmed that both models will be sold with its upgraded maintenance plan, which spans five years or 105 000km.

A five-year/150 000km warranty will also be included as standard.
