The idea behind this cocktail is to create a unique balance between the bold bitterness of espresso and the nutty flavour of Parmesan cheese.

In the ever-evolving world of mixology, viral cocktail trends often push the boundaries of traditional pairings. The latest sensation to take the internet by storm is the Parmesan Espresso Martini. Yes, you read that right – this intriguing concoction combines the rich, robust flavours of espresso with the savoury, umami notes of Parmesan cheese.

As bizarre as it may sound, this cocktail has captivated the curiosity of both cocktail enthusiasts and sceptics alike. We decided to dive into this trend headfirst and try the Parmesan Espresso Martini for ourselves.

Ingredients

  • 50 ml of vodka
  • 25 ml of freshly brewed espresso
  • 15 ml of coffee liqueur (such as Kahlúa)
  • 10 ml of simple syrup
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Ice cubes

Method

  1. Brew a fresh shot of espresso. The quality of the espresso is crucial, as it forms the backbone of the cocktail. Opt for a strong, rich blend.
  2. In a cocktail shaker, combine the vodka, freshly brewed espresso, coffee liqueur, and simple syrup. Add a generous handful of ice cubes to the shaker. Shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds to chill the mixture and create a frothy texture.
  3. Strain the mixture into a chilled martini glass.
  4. The pièce de résistance of this cocktail is the Parmesan garnish. Take a small amount of freshly grated Parmesan cheese and gently sprinkle it over the top of the drink.
