Raise a glass to the honey apple whiskey sour

We recommend using a darker honey, such as wildflower, as it enhances the richness of the whisky and complements the apple cider beautifully.

Whisky, with its smoky, caramel, and spice notes, is an ideal spirit for autumn cocktails. The warmth of whisky complements seasonal fruits like apples, pears, cranberries, and figs, bringing out their natural sweetness and tartness. When mixed properly, fruit softens the sharp edges of whisky, creating a smooth, well-balanced drink. The Honey Apple Whisky Sour is a twist on the classic whisky sour, swapping out the usual simple syrup for natural honey and enhancing the tartness with fresh apple cider.

Ingredients

  • 50ml whisky (bourbon works best)
  • 25ml fresh apple juice
  • 20ml freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 15ml raw honey (preferably a darker variety like wildflower or avocado blossom for added depth)
  • Dash of cinnamon or nutmeg (for garnish)
  • Apple slice or cinnamon stick (for garnish)

Method

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with whisky, apple juice, lemon juice, and honey. If the honey is thick, you may want to warm it slightly so it mixes more easily.
  2. Fill the shaker with ice and shake vigorously for 15–20 seconds.
  3. Using a fine strainer, pour the cocktail into a rocks glass filled with a large ice cube. A large cube melts slower, preventing the drink from becoming too diluted.
  4. Sprinkle a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg over the top and garnish with an apple slice or a cinnamon stick.

Tip: You can swap the apple cider for pear juice or use a smoky Scotch instead of bourbon for a richer, peaty profile.
