Steamy and spicy autumn citrus toddy

Serve this autumn cocktail in a clear glass mug so you can see the deep golden colour, then top it with fresh citrus slices.

This autumn cocktail leans into the season with fresh, heated orange and lemon, a splash of good whisky and warming whole spices. A sprig of rosemary or thyme keeps the drink from tasting overly sweet.

Ingredients

  • 60 ml whisky
  • 125 ml fresh orange juice
  • 15 ml fresh lemon juice
  • 15 ml honey
  • 1 small cinnamon stick
  • 1 star anise
  • Small sprig fresh rosemary or thyme
  • Orange and lemon slices, to garnish
  • Hot water, to top up if needed

Method

  1. Add the orange juice, lemon juice, honey, cinnamon stick and star anise to a small saucepan.
  2. Warm gently over low heat until hot but not boiling. Stir to dissolve the honey.
  3. Remove from the heat and stir in the whisky.
  4. Pour into a heatproof glass mug.
  5. Garnish with citrus slices and a sprig of rosemary or thyme. Serve immediately while hot.
