3 indoor activities to keep your dog entertained

Keep your pooch active (and out of mischief) with these fun, free activities.

Your dog can easily become bored during winter, as they are often cooped up inside because it’s too cold outside. Try these easy games to keep them busy and active while enjoying some quality bonding time.

  1. Hide-and-Seek

Who doesn’t love a good game of Hide-and-Seek? Not only will it provide you both with entertainment, but it’s also an opportunity to engage your dog’s brain and reinforce training.

Here’s how to do it: Bring your dog into a room in your house, then have them sit and stay. Leave the room and hide. When you’re ready, call your dog’s name and invite them to come find you. Reward them when they succeed.

2. Tug of War

For some dogs, a game of tug is a great way to expend their energy while bonding with their pet parent. Just know that this isn’t the game for every dog. If your pup tends to get overstimulated or has resource-guarding tendencies, this may not be your best option for indoor exercise.

3. Stairs

Burn off that pent up energy and join in the workout by walking or running up and down stairs together. Be sure to clear the stairs and the surrounding area in advance to ensure there are no tripping or slipping hazards. This exercise is not recommended for breeds with long backs and short legs or older dogs who have hip issues. Also, be careful that your dog doesn’t get under your feet to prevent injury to either of you.
