Crispers Chaat cups ready in 20 minutes

Spoil the family with crispy air-fried potato bites topped with tangy yoghurt, tamarind chutney and crunchy sev.

Chaat is one of the great joys of Indian street food. The word chaat comes from the Hindi verb chaatna, which means to lick, and that gives you a pretty good idea of the experience. This is very much a scrape-the-plate-clean kind of dish. In this recipe, crispy air-fried potato crispers form the base. The toppings include a drizzle of cool whisked yoghurt, tamarind chutney, finely chopped onion and tomato, a sprinkle of chaat masala or chilli powder, fresh coriander, and a generous handful of sev over the top. Recipe compliments of McCain.

Ingredients

  • 400g McCain Crispers
  • 1 tablespoon oil
  • ½ cup plain yoghurt, whisked smooth
  • 2 tablespoons tamarind chutney
  • ¼ cup onion, finely chopped
  • ¼ cup tomato, chopped
  • Fresh coriander, chopped
  • Chilli powder or chaat masala, to taste
  • Sev (crunchy Indian chickpea noodles), to finish

Method

  1. Air fry the Crispers at 200°C for 15–18 minutes until golden and crispy.
  2. Transfer to small bowls or cups.
  3. Top generously with whisked yoghurt, tamarind chutney, chopped onion, tomato and fresh coriander.
  4. Sprinkle over chilli powder or chaat masala to your liking.
  5. Finish with a good handful of sev and serve immediately – these are at their best eaten right away.
