1 dead, 2 injured in Ekurhuleni CIT heist

Investigations are underway following a cash-in-transit heist in which one person was killed and two were critically injured.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) officers swiftly responded to a cash-in-transit heist on Sonnerskraal Road in Duduza on Monday.

African Reporter reports that according to EMPD spokesperson Thabiso Makgato, primary responding firefighters from Duduza found a Mercedes-Benz, allegedly used on the scene by the suspects, on fire.

“One adult male, alleged to have been a driver of a G4S vehicle, was unfortunately declared dead on the scene by paramedics.

“The vehicle was found lying on its side in the middle of the road with clear visible explosive damages.

“Two other G4S assistants in the vehicle sustained critical injuries and were transported by ambulances and admitted to the nearest medical facility,” says Makgato.

Makgato adds that all other relevant law enforcement units arrived to conduct investigations, which are still underway.
