1 dead, 2 injured in Germiston tavern shooting

Police are investigating a case of murder and attempted murder following a shooting at a tavern in Gauteng.

A man was killed and two others were wounded when two gunmen opened fire inside an Elandsfontein tavern yesterday, reports Bedfordview Edenvale News.

Bedfordview SAPS members and other emergency role players arrived at the scene at 18:45 following reports of a shooting.

Sergeant Lillian Modiga, the spokesperson for the Bedfordview SAPS, reported that there had been a complaint where it was alleged that two men wearing white caps were observed standing outside the tavern monitoring movement inside.

“One suspect entered, purchased a beer and exited. Both suspects later re-entered the tavern and opened fire,” said Modiga.

She said three victims sustained injuries and were transported to Bertha Gxowa Hospital in Germiston.

One victim was declared dead on arrival.

“Four cartridges were recovered from the scene and the case is under investigation,” said Modiga.

She adds the identities of the victims are unknown and no arrests have been made.
