11 cottages looted in one night on Amadiba coast
Eleven cottages on the Amadiba coast at the Mnyameni river mouth were robbed and looted of everything inside during the early hours of Friday morning. The cottages were built in the 1980s.
It is alleged by the Amadiba Crisis Committee that a number of men were involved, arriving in two trucks. According to spokesman Nonhle Mbuthuma, the local security guard was beaten badly and tied up.
“The robbers took everything inside the cottages and loaded the goods into the trucks, including fridges, boat motors, blankets, beds and stoves. The houses were emptied of everything, whether valuable or not,” said Mr Mbuthuma.
“As the ACC, we condemn this gangster act as an attack on tourism in Amadiba. The attack today is similar to the attack on the Kwanyana campsite of Amadiba Adventures 15 years ago, when all tents, generators and equipment were stolen during the night. The campsite was wiped out. Who the suspects were at that time was clear to the community,” he said.
A reward of R10 000 has been set out by the owners and the ACC believes the stolen goods might still be somewhere in the area.
The case is with the Saps at the Mpisi station in Mbizana. “We call upon the enforcers of the law to search the area properly without fear or favour. We cannot accept gangsterism taking over in our community,” said Mr Mbuthuma.
