2.4m black mamba rescued in Reservoir Hills, Durban
While Evans was moving equipment out of the way in an attempt to reach the snake, it slithered into a hole in the boundary wall.
With snake season in full swing, local snake catcher, Nick Evans was called to retrieve a black mamba from a home in Reservoir Hills.
Evans said that the snake was hiding in a space between the home and its border wall.
“It was the perfect place for a mamba as this space had plenty of shelter. While I was removing the ladders and doors, the snake slithered into a hole at the bottom of the border wall,” he said.
His best option was to flood it out and, to ensure he was out of sight when the snake eventually emerged, he propped up a ladder against the side of the house.

“The mamba came out, very cautiously. I grabbed the neck with the tongs and jumped off of the ladder,” said Evans.
Working in minimal light he was able to secure the 2.4 metre reptile.
“The last few mambas I’ve caught have been small, so it was nice to get a big healthy one again,” said Evans.
