2 arrested, 1 flees after Centurion house robbery

SAPS, security personnel and CPF members joined forces to stop a suspicious vehicle that was driving without headlights.

A high-speed chase on Botha Avenue in Centurion led to the arrest of two house robbery suspects early this morning.

A third suspect fled into nearby bushes.

According to police spokesperson Captain Johan Van Dyk, private security personnel received a tip-off at around 00:30 about a suspicious bakkie on Union Avenue.

“Acting on the tip-off, the officers spotted the bakkie driving without headlights, and the suspects attempted to flee, which then resulted in a high-speed chase.”

Van Dyk says the vehicle was stopped in Botha Avenue in a joint effort by SAPS, Lyttleton CPF and other security companies.

Two suspects were arrested, while the third fled into nearby bushes.

“When police searched the vehicle and the suspects, they found a firearm in the driver’s possession.”

He says further investigations revealed that the bakkie had been stolen during a house robbery last night.

Van Dyk says four suspects allegedly tied up an elderly man, held him at gunpoint, and stole a television and other valuables during the house robbery.

“The joint efforts of the police, E2 Security and CPF members, who provided critical information about the suspects, led to the success of this operation.”

He commended the security officers’ and CPF members’ bravery.

Acting district commissioner Brigadier Moses Dladla praised the collaboration between law enforcement agencies and emphasised the importance of such partnerships in combatting crime.
