2 arrested after assault victim dies outside Westenburg Police Station in Limpopo
Suspects arrested in connection with a man’s death are due to appear in court today.
Two men, aged 22 and 25, have been arrested in connection with a murder after allegedly assaulting a man who later died at the Westenburg Police Station in Limpopo yesterday afternoon.
Polokwane Review reports that, according to Limpopo police spokesperson Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, the chain of events began earlier yesterday when one of the suspects opened a case of theft after claiming that his cellphone and cash were stolen at a tavern on Witklip Street in Ladanna.
Instead of waiting for the police to investigate, the man and another suspect allegedly took matters into their own hands.
Police say the pair drove to Ga-Kipi along the Dendron road, where they believed they would find the person responsible.
“Preliminary reports suggest the suspects located the man, chased him down and assaulted him before bringing him, already severely injured, to the Westenburg Police Station. Officers immediately called Emergency Medical Services, but paramedics declared the victim dead on arrival. His identity has not yet been confirmed,” says Ledwaba.
He says witness statements have been obtained, which will assist to piece together what happened before the victim was brought to the station.
“The two suspects were arrested on the spot and are expected to appear in the Polokwane District Court today on a charge of murder.
Investigations are ongoing.
