2 arrested following shootout, attempted hijacking in Durban
A taxi driver was held up while waiting for a client in Che Guevara Road.
Two suspects were arrested after they attempted to hijack a taxi in Che Guevara Road, Durban.
According to Capt Pumzile Makaula from Umbilo SAPS, a Taxify driver responded to a request to pick up a passenger and while he was waiting for the client to get in the car, a man came from across the road and pointed a firearm at the driver.
“The man told the driver to get in the back of the vehicle, and he got in the car with a woman. The driver managed to run away after a scuffle with the front passenger. He ran to a nearby petrol station and asked a Blue security guard who was driving out of the garage to assist,” said Makaula.
She said when the security guard approached the suspects they fired shots at him and he exchanged fire.
“Two suspects were apprehended, and no one was injured. The men were charged with attempted carjacking and attempted murder,” said Makaula.
