2 children drown in Durban hotel pool

Paramedics tried in vain to resuscitate the children for over an hour.

Two girls, aged nine and five, drowned in a hotel pool in the south of Durban yesterday.

Spokesperson for Emer-G-Med paramedics Kyle Van Reenen says they arrived on the scene, together with Netcare911 Paramedics and Medi-Response, at around 15:00.

“On arrival at the scene, a five-year-old female and nine-year-old female were found in a state of cardiac arrest,” says Van Reenen.

Paramedics could not resuscitate the two children.

“Resuscitation efforts and several advanced life-support intervention methods were exhausted for over an hour. However, we were unsuccessful, and the two children were sadly declared dead on the scene,” says Van Reenen.

“Our thoughts extend to the family,” he adds.
