2 children rescued from burning building in Pretoria CBD

The children were unharmed during the ordeal and no other injuries were reported.

A burning building in the Pretoria CBD from where two minors were rescued was a stark reminder of the devastating building fire that killed more than 70 people in Johannesburg recently.

The fire broke out at the Koopkrag building on the corner of Johannes Ramokhoase and Paul Kruger streets.

According to Tshwane emergency services deputy chief and acting spokesperson Peter Matolla, the call came in at 10:05.

“We responded to the scene immediately to find that two rooms on the second floor of the building were on fire,” Matolla said.

“Firefighters managed to retrieve two unharmed children from the burning building. No injuries were reported.”

The emergency responders successfully extinguished the fire. This morning firefighters were still on the scene to stamp out any remains of the blaze.

The cause of the fire is unknown and investigations are underway.

Residents with any information pertaining to this fire are encouraged to reach out to their local authorities.
