2 cops shot at Alexandra Police Station, alleged gunman killed
Alexandra is reeling after two police officers were shot inside the police station, allegedly by a man who grabbed an officer’s gun and started firing randomly.
Two Alexandra Police Station officers are receiving medical attention after being shot in their right shoulders at the station today.
Deputy provincial commissioner Fred Kekana confirmed the incident occurred at 10:00.
“A man came into the community service centre and informed the police that he needed assessments… While an officer was writing a statement, the man [allegedly] grabbed the officer’s firearm.”
He then allegedly started shooting randomly. A sergeant (46) and a constable (27) were shot.
Kekana says the officers are receiving medical attention and are in stable condition.
Other officers returned fire on the man, who continued to shoot randomly. The suspect was killed and the firearm was recovered.
The commissioner confirmed that police officers at Alexandra Police Station are being attended to in terms of their mental and emotional health through social workers as a result of the incident.
