2 men face 12 charges in Pinetown schoolboy kidnapping case
Ransom demands and armed robberies are among the allegations facing two men accused in a string of serious crimes in KZN.
Two men facing 12 charges linked to the kidnapping of pupils from Pinetown Boys’ High School in KZN are due back in court on Tuesday (August 18) reports Highway Mail.
The accused, aged 29 and 35, who were arrested in May, face charges including kidnapping, extortion, attempted extortion and robbery with aggravating circumstances.
During previous proceedings, neither of the accused had brought a formal bail application before the court.
Instead, they assured the court that they would first consult with their legal representative before deciding whether they intend to apply for bail at a later stage.
One of the alleged kidnapping incidents took place on May 2 on Bamboo Lane in Pinetown, where the suspects allegedly attempted to extort R6 000 for the release of the victim.
It is also alleged that in separate incidents they demanded ransoms ranging from R10 000 to R12 000.
In the counts of robbery with aggravating circumstances, it is alleged that the suspects used either a firearm or a knife to rob victims of cellphones, including those of the pupils.
