3 arrested for Majuba Power Station coal fraud

Two weighbridge operators allegedly issued slips pretending that the coal was delivered at the power station.

A truck driver and two weighbridge operators are accused of fraud and theft for pretending a load of coal was delivered at Majuba Power Station when in fact it was offloaded at an illegal coal yard.

Brian Mandizvidze (31), Nompumelelo Ngwenya (37) and Tshepang Phatswane (30), were all released on R2000 bail by the Middelburg Magistrates Court on Thursday.

They were arrested by the Hawks’ Middelburg-based Serious Organized Crime Investigation Unit.

It is alleged that on 25 August, the driver of a truck, Brian Mandizvidze, loaded coal from NCC mine to deliver at Majuba Power Station.

Instead of delivering the coal to Majuba Power station, the driver diverted to an illegal coal yard where the coal was off-loaded.

The two weighbridge operators Ngwenya and Phatswane allegedly issued slips as if the coal was delivered, resulting in Majuba Power Station paying R27 000 for it.

The case was postponed to 6 October 2023.
