Three arrested for Majuba Power Station coal fraud

A payment of R27 000 was effected by Majuba Power Station.

Brian Mandizvidze (31), Nompumelelo Ngwenya (37) and Tshepang Phatswane (30), were all released on R2000 bail by the Middelburg Magistrates Court on Thursday, 21 September, after they were arrested by the Hawks Middelburg based Serious Organized Crime Investigation Unit over alleged involvement in fraud and theft in Blinkpan.

It is alleged that on 25 August 2023, the driver of a truck, Brian Mandizvidze, loaded coal from NCC mine to deliver at Majuba Power Station.

Instead of delivering the coal to Majuba Power station, the driver diverted to an illegal coal yard where they off-loaded the coal .

The two weigh bridge operators Ngwenya and Phatswane issued weigh bridge slips as if the coal was delivered, whereas in actual fact, it was not.

The matter was reported to the Hawks who conducted a sting operation, resulting in the arrests. and the trio was arrested.

The case was postponed to 6 October 2023.
