3 killed after taxi overturns in suspected shooting on N12 Etwatwa off-ramp

Springs police are investigating a fatal taxi crash that left three people dead – a driver and two passengers – following a suspected shooting on the N12.

A taxi lost control and overturned on the N12 at the Etwatwa off-ramp in Ekurhuleni on Tuesday, leaving three dead in what was allegedly a shooting-related incident, reports Springs Advertiser.

One of the injured passengers is reported to be a SAPS member who was on their way to work.
According to Springs police spokesperson, Sergeant Charity Zwane, the police responded to a report of a shooting.

“Upon arrival, they found a white taxi that had lost control and overturned, allegedly as a result of a shooting. Multiple cartridges were found at the scene,” she said.

She added that a man identified as the driver, along with two passengers, was certified dead at the scene by emergency medical services.

“Other passengers who sustained injuries were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. It was established that one of the victims taken for medical treatment is a SAPS member who was going to work at the time of the incident,” she said.

The circumstances surrounding the incident are under investigation.
