3 murders under investigation in Thembalethu over 3 days

Police are probing three separate murders near George over three days, including a vigilante assault and a shooting.

Detectives in Thembalethu are investigating three unrelated murder cases reported between Thursday and Saturday.

George Herald reports that, in the first incident, police were called to a scene in Tabata Street, Zone 8, during the early hours of Thursday.

Officers arrived at approximately 02:30 and found an adult male with multiple head injuries. Preliminary information suggests the victim was allegedly assaulted during a vigilante attack. He later died due to his injuries.

A 43-year-old suspect has been arrested in connection with the murder. He remains in police custody and is expected to appear in the Thembalethu Magistrate’s Court today. Police have indicated that further arrests may follow as the investigation continues.

Shooting

In a second incident on the same day, police responded to a shooting in Ramaphosa, Zone 6, Thembalethu, at about 20:50.

Upon arrival, officers were led to the body of a 51-year-old man who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

According to available information, the victim was seated on a stoep when an unidentified man approached and fired a single shot before fleeing the scene. Paramedics later declared the victim dead at the scene. No arrests have been made in this matter and the suspect remains at large.

3rd body found in Nelson Mandela Boulevard

A third murder was reported on Saturday at approximately 06:00 in Nelson Mandela Boulevard, Thembalethu.

Police were alerted to a person lying motionless in the street. On arrival, officers found a 25-year-old man with multiple scratch marks on his face and body. He was pronounced dead by medical personnel at the scene.

No arrests have yet been made.

The investigating officer, Warrant Officer Esmerelda Jackson, has appealed to the public to assist police with any information that may help the investigations.
