3 stabbed in Randfontein, intruder shot
A man who was allegedly trying to break into his sister’s house was shot by reaction officers.
A man who was allegedly trying to force his way into a house in Helikon Park, Randfontein, stabbed three people before a security company’s reaction officers shot him.
Randfontein Herald reports that Mapogo A Mathamaga reaction officers, police and emergency services responded to a distress call from a Helikon Villas resident at about 11:00.
According to Mapogo operations manager Mac van Zyl, a man armed with a knife had been trying to force his way into his sister’s home.
Van Zyl says when one of the occupants ran outside to ask a neighbour for help, the suspect attacked the neighbour. He then stabbed two other residents.
When authorities arrived on the scene, the man refused to comply, leading to a struggle. When officers attempted to disarm him, he resisted and was subsequently shot.
Van Zyl says the three victims and the suspect were transported to hospital with serious injuries.
