3 suspects in court after Mossel Bay beach attack

A peaceful afternoon reading on Diaz Beach turned violent when a victim was stabbed from behind, though swift police work ultimately led to the recovery of a stolen iPad.

Three suspects face charges of attempted murder and aggravated robbery in Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court following a stabbing at Diaz Beach, reports Mossel Bay Advertiser.

The two men (31 and 42) and a woman (33) appeared in court yesterday (July 22), in connection with the attack on a 40-year-old man on July 5.

Southern Cape police spokesperson Warrant Officer Chris Spies said the victim was reading on his iPad on Diaz Beach when the suspects approached him.

They allegedly stabbed him three times in the back with a sharp object and stole his iPad before fleeing on foot. The victim attempted to pursue the suspects, but was unsuccessful.

He was taken to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. His current condition is not yet known.

Shortly after Da Gamaskop police opened an investigation, the three suspects were arrested, and the iPad was recovered and returned to the victim.

Police investigation into the matter continues.
