4 arrested for mass killing in Pietermaritzburg

The foursome were nabbed just less than a month after a RDP house was set alight with scores of people inside.

Four men have been arrested in connection with the brutal killing of 13 people who were burnt to death in a RDP house in Taylor’s Halt, Pietermaritzburg on May 14.

According to KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, eight people were burnt to death inside the house, while others succumbed to their injuries in hospital.

Netshiunda says another dead body was found with burn wounds in the bushes, a short distance from the scene of crime.

“The matter was escalated to the murder and robbery unit under the serious and violent crime unit who hit the ground running. Immaculate investigations isolated the suspected murderers and police pounced on them on Tuesday,” adds Netshiunda.

“The four suspects, whose ages have not been confirmed as yet, will be presented before court soon,” says Netshiunda.

He adds that investigations are continuing with the investigating team not ruling out the possibility of more arrests.
