Three men and two women are expected to appear in the Wynberg Magistrate’s Court today (September 14) in connection with the rape and kidnapping of an e-hailing driver.  

According to Western Cape police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala, the 25-year-old driver met one of the women through his business. 

Gwala explained that the pair exchanged numbers before making arrangements to meet.  

She added that when they met on Saturday (September 12) the suspects allegedly kidnapped him.

He was also reportedly raped, allegedly by the women. 

Victim tracked down 

Steenberg police were informed by the victim’s brother who was contacted, allegedly by the suspects, demanding R4 000 cash for his release. 

“They located the victim through his vehicle tracker and found him in Heathfield,” Gwala said. 

Police arrested two women, aged 23 and 34, and three men, aged 16, 42 and 48.
