5 family members hacked to death in Pietermaritzburg
An 85-year-old woman, her 45-year-old daughter, 11-year-old twins and a nine-year-old were found with fatal head injuries.

Five family members including three children have been killed in the Mgodini area of Edendale, Pietermaritzburg.
KZN police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda says police in the province have launched a massive search for the suspects who are behind the murder of these family members.
He explains the bodies of the family members, who are believed to have been killed on Tuesday evening, were recovered yesterday afternoon – by a family member who had gone to visit and knocked several times at the door without a response.
“When police arrived at the scene, five bodies: [That] of an 85-year-old woman, her 45-year-old daughter and her three children: 11-year-old twins and a nine-year-old, were found lying on the floor.
“All the family members had suffered fatal head injuries and a blood-stained axe was found at the scene. The motive of the killings is unknown at this stage,” he adds.
Netshiunda appeals to anyone who might have information that may assist in the investigation or about the whereabouts of the suspect(s) to contact their nearest police station or call the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.
He says tip-offs can also be communicated to the police via the MySAPS app.
