51 buses torched at 4 Mpumalanga depots: 2 more arrested

Two more suspects have been arrested after the torching of 51 Putco buses in KwaNdebele, bringing the total number of arrests to four.

Two additional suspects, aged 31 and 33, have been arrested in connection with the recent torching of 51 Putco buses in KwaNdebele.

Mpumalanga News reports provincial police arrested them in Siyabuswa yesterday.

They join Isaac Mabena (29) and Luthando Trevor Skosana (37), who were arrested on January 28, a day after the buses were torched.

According to provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Donald Mdhluli, the suspects have been charged with malicious damage to property.

“The arrests by the assigned team were made as part of an ongoing investigation into the incident that occurred on January 27. The suspects are believed to have been involved in the co-ordinated attack on the bus fleet, causing significant damage to the vehicles and posing a threat to public safety,” he says.

Mdhluli adds the suspects are scheduled to appear in the Mdutjane Magistrate’s Court today.
