6 trucks set alight on N3 in Van Reenen’s Pass

The motive for the arson attack is not known at this stage and the road remains closed.

Six trucks were reportedly set alight in the early hours of this morning (July 9) on the N3 in Van Rheenen’s Pass and the road remains closed for clean-up operations.

No injuries were reported. Motorists are advised to delay their journeys in this area.

The Tugela Plaza and Tugela East Plaza have been closed, as well as the northbound carriageway at the Frere interchange.

RTI, emergency services, towing services and the Fire Department responded to the scene.

The Citizen reports the motive for the arson attack is not yet known but is believed to be protest-related.
