A man was shot in the head on the corner of Boshoff and Langalibalele street in Pietermaritzburg after he allegedly tried to rob a man sitting in his car.

Police said the alleged robber demanded that the man hand over his belongings which prompted the man in the car to draw out his fire-arm and shoot him in the head yesterday, Public Eye reported.

Police added that the man fired a second shot into the suspect’s chest; however, the bullet went through his leg and hit a bystander’s leg.

ER24 reported that the robber was stabilised on the scene, due to his critical condition, he was rushed to Grey’s Hospital.

It was alleged that women and elderly people were the main targets for this kind of activity in the area.

Police said five men entered the supermarket and demanded money at gunpoint before fleeing.

In a shootout with the alleged robbers, one of them was killed, two were arrested and two escaped.
