ANC hopes to have officials’ election results by today

Some claims of voter buying have surfaced, but this needs to be backed with evidence, the party's national spokesperson says.

Outgoing national spokesperson Pule Mabe confirmed that they are getting there in terms of progress at the conference.

He said yesterday they concluded with the credentials adoption and nominations from the floor. The names of those who qualified were read out and a new position was added as per constitutional amendment and they now have the Top Seven: tThe president, deputy president, national chairperson, secretary-general, first deputy secretary-general, second deputy secretary-general and treasurer-general.

“The messages of support are being conveyed at the plenary hall and there are discussions of reports that were tabled. Delegates will move to different commissions and continue with deliberations.

“You may notice that as soon as the credentials were adopted we moved at a faster pace. We still hope to have results of the officials announced today. Thereafter, they will begin with nominations of the additional members, so that tomorrow we can start with voting for the additional members. We are trying to cover as much ground as possible especially with those things we lag behind,” he said.

He continued to thank the delegates and media for smooth proceedings.

“We don’t anticipate that we won’t be finished by December 20. We will try to speed up the process by maybe limiting the time given to deliberations,” he said.

On rumours of vote buying he said they are not aware of such. “That was one of the points in our dos and don’ts. We said delegates must report acts of vote buying or any attempts to influence the deliberations of conference through unethical means. People must come with evidence so that we can take it from there and investigate,” he noted.
