Armed robbery suspect shot during police pursuit in Amanzimtoti
An armed robbery suspect was shot and arrested following a pursuit, while a second suspect was detained and firearms were recovered.
A report of an armed robbery along the Old Main Road, Amanzimtoti, was received via the CCPO communication channel on Boxing Day.
According to South Coast Sun, it was reported that the suspects were travelling in a VW Polo and a Toyota Etios, and that firearms were brandished during the commission of the crime.
The suspect vehicles were later spotted travelling in the direction of KwaMakhutha and were immediately pursued by responding units.
Suspect shot and arrested
During the pursuit, one suspect exited the vehicle while armed and fled on foot. He was chased, cornered and subsequently pointed a firearm at members.
Members reacted accordingly and the suspect was shot and wounded to the lower body. ALS Paramedics attended to the suspect on scene, where he received medical treatment before being taken into custody.
Charges laid
The suspect was reportedly charged with:
- Armed robbery
- Pointing of a firearm
- Possession of a prohibited firearm
- Possession of ammunition
Vehicle recovered
Information regarding the VW Polo was circulated and the vehicle was later located abandoned. It was recovered and booked in at KwaMakhutha Police Station.
Second suspect detained
A second suspect was detained and reportedly charged with:
- Armed robbery
- Attempting to defeat the ends of justice

- A Glock handgun
- Ammunition
- A VW Polo
