Pretoria: As many as 70 injured in a multi-vehicle accident on N1

It is believed that up to 12 vehicles, including a bus, were involved in an accident on the N1 near Garsfontein on Saturday evening.

As many as 70 people had been left injured in a multi-vehicle accident on the N1 near Garsfontein on Saturday evening.

Motorists were advised to avoid the area while emergency services were still at the scene on Saturday night.

A medical helicopter was dispatched to airlift critical patients to the hospital.

It is believed that up to 12 vehicles were involved in the accident.

“Initial reports are that as many as seventy people have been left with injuries ranging from minor to critical,” said Kyle van Reenen of Emer-G-Med.

Michael Gough from Pro-Med estimated around 12 vehicles were involved in the accident, including a bus.

Gough said 18 patients were transported, including a baby.

“The patients from the bus were injured but were not transported to the hospital,” he said.

A bus carrying passengers was also involved in the accident.
