Aspiring candidates urged to attend IEC workshops across SA

The IEC is hosting workshops across South Africa to help aspiring candidates and new parties prepare for the 2026/27 Local Government Elections.

Are you an aspiring electoral candidate? The Independent Electoral Commission’s (IEC) nationwide workshops are for you.

In a statement, IEC spokesperson Kate Bapela says the information workshops aim to equip potential electoral contestants ahead of the 2026/27 Local Government Elections.

The countrywide programme starts with a session in Gauteng tomorrow.

“The workshops are designed to equip unrepresented political parties, newly formed parties and aspiring independent candidates with essential knowledge and guidance to enable their effective participation in the upcoming elections.”

Workshop dates:

  • Gauteng: November 17
  • Free State: November 19
  • Northern Cape: November 20
  • Kwa-Zulu Natal: November 25
  • Mpumalanga: November 27
  • Limpopo: November 28
  • North West: December 2
  • Eastern Cape: December 8
