Assault of 4 children: KZN grandmother denied bail

Four children, aged between eight and 11, under their grandmother's care were found to be badly assaulted.

A 67-year-old grandmother from Groutville in the Ilembe District of KZN, accused of brutally assaulting her four grandchildren, has been denied bail. She appeared in the KwaDukuza Regional Court on Monday, facing four counts of grievous bodily harm.

According to The North Coast Courier, iLembe police spokesperson Alex Thomson confirmed the arrest. He said the woman was taken into custody by the iLembe District Family Violence Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit.

The alleged abuse came to light when a teacher at school noticed one of the children in visible pain. The pupil was questioned and severe bruising was evident when the child was asked to their shirt.

Further investigation revealed that all four children under the grandmother’s care, aged between eight and 11, had been badly assaulted.
